In the mid-seventies, among others, three models were created in the monster receiver category Kenwood KR 9400, Marantz 2335 and Sansui 9090.Not strange and accidental, they were the answer in the fight for the market primacy on the Pioneer SX-1010, the first power amplifier 100 Watts. All had about 120 watts - classic examples of the monster receiver of the era. For those uninitiated with classic 70s receivers, these models have a similar aesthetic appearance. Each has a pushbutton switch inside the black faceplate and a knob on the main faceplate.

Sansui 9090 was created with an integrated classic audio for its ancestors - especially from Sansui AU 111, AU9500, AU20000. All these classics are equipped with the legendary Hashimoto transformers.

9090 was introduced after the Hashimoto era of Sansui - so there is no legendary transformer. But it debuted in the years when Sansui was described as one of the best in consumer audio. After this period, the quality and performance of the offer could be noticed.

While Marantz and Kenwood revealed their advantage in heavy rock, the Sansui 9090, although it's a 70's vintage design, is more sophisticated in the music presentation. Perhaps more neutral in relation to the competition, it does not mean that there is no musicality in 9090, it has a warmer sound that catches the listener after the first interrogation. The competition is darker in sound. We're dealing here with a fantastic sound stage - maybe not as wide as in Kenwood - but its depth and layering in 9090 is very noticeable. Sansui 9090 is less forgiving for very heavy music, but I do not prefer it. Contributors to the cult of this receiver say that this testifies to the nature of the sound and its advantage over the competition.

From an objective point of view, the Sansui 9090 is ahead of the competition but from a subjective view, where the musicality has its value over the brand's estimate, the competition is strong .... but it will still always be a unique SANSUI 9090 ..... :)
